New Tiles & Upcoming Stuff

If you've been keeping track of some of my WIP projects over on G+, you'll know that I've been working on a couple of new products this year ...the first being a new expansion set for the 'pay-what-you-want' dungeon-tiles range...

Well, I'm pleased to say that this new expansion set is now available from RPGNow & DriveThruRPG, and introduces a number of narrow passages (and rooms with narrow passage entrances) to the range.

- a layout that uses the tiles from expansion set 2 -

Also included in this set are a number of special 'transition' pieces that will allow you to connect these narrow (1") passages to the wider (2") passages from the previous sets.

- a layout that uses tiles from all three sets -

And just to reiterate, Basic Dungeon Tiles : Expansion Set II is a pay-what-you-want product ...so please feel free to pick it up for FREE -or- pay as much (or as little) as you like!

The second thing I've been working on (and am still working on) is a map-pack that features a large tower/citadel (done in a similar style to my existing East Eyrie booklet)...

- a WIP picture of the main tower -

However, unlike the aforementioned  East Eyrie booklet, I'm planning on including a second 'bonus' booklet in the download - one which features a keyed (black & white) version of the same tower (for a more 'classic' look, or simply to save on printer ink).

- the black & white version -

Hopefully this 'tower' booklet will be available early next week (fingers crossed).

Dungeon Monthly (January 2014)

As regular followers of the blog will already know, during 2013 I set myself the task of drawing  a small (geomorph-style) dungeon map each and every month, and posted the results here on the blog (note that more information about the 'dungeon-monthly' project can be found HERE).

Well, I'm hoping that a few folks will be pleased to know that I've decided to attempt a similar thing in 2014 ...and once again, the aim is to have all of the maps join together to form a huge dungeon level by the end of the year (though their semi-modular nature will mean that they will also be compatible with my previous geomorphs from 2011 & 2012).

So, if we consider last year's dungeon to be 'level 1' of the dungeon ...here's the first map of level 2 (note that the stairs from this map line up with the stairs on the final map of 2013).

And, if you'd like unlabelled versions of any of the 'dungeon-monthly' maps (for VTTs etc.) you can find them in the following albums:

Experimenting with caves...

Over the past couple of days I've been experimenting with a couple of different cave maps.

These maps are still fairly similar to one another, but I have attempted to produce a number of alternate environments by adding different colours/textures/effects to each image...

- ice cavern -

- lava cave -

-sandstone passages-

...which (I hope) adds a little more interest and variety to my existing style :)

Note that you can also get unlabelled versions of these maps* (scaled at 50 pixels per square - perhaps for use in a VTT or to add text of your own) in THIS G+ album.

A Quick Look at Purple Mountain

As some of you will already know, as well as working on my own projects (for CSP), I also do a lot of maps for the guys over at Purple Duck Games.

One of the projects I've been working on is their 'Purple Mountain' mega-dungeon (for the Pathfinder system) ...which should span 20 levels when finished (though each level can also be used as a standalone adventure if you prefer to use them that way).

- The latest Installment of Purple Mountain -

Anyway, I thought I would post a (very) small picture of all the maps from the first five levels of the dungeon...

...yep, that's just one quarter of the finished dungeon, and as you can see that's definitely more than 5 maps - as some of these 'levels' have several sub-levels of their own, or need to be split over multiple pages.

As of now, the first six levels are available from PDGs RPGNow storefront (which you can find HERE), and so far they seem to have received pretty good reviews (and no one has complained about the maps - which is a relief on my part :) ).

Oh... and I'll also point out that I provide companion (blown-up to miniatures scale) battle-map versions of all these maps through my own RPGNow storefront ...though these are not meant to be comparable to high-res dungeon tiles ...but they are perfectly serviceable if you just want to print out a couple of the key areas (using the draft/ink-saving quality of your printer) of each adventure.

More 'pay-what-you-want' Dungeon Tiles

I'm pleased to announce the release of another set of free/PWYW dungeon tiles...

This booklet expands on the previous set by offering 11 unique tiles (as well as several smaller 'detail' pieces) to add a little variety to the dungeon.

Basic Dungeon Tiles : Expansion Set 1 is a Pay-What-You-Want product ...so please feel free to grab it for free, or pay as much/little as you like!

What's to come in (early) 2014...

Before I begin, I would  like to say a big thank you to everyone who has picked up the 'pay-what-you-want' dungeon tiles (doubly so if you decided that the booklet warranted a couple of pounds/dollars/etc. of your hard earned cash).

I have to say that I really didn't expect much interest in the booklet (since there are a multitude of such products already available), but I guess I couldn't have been more wrong.

MORE DUNGEON TILES

Anyway, if you've been following me over on G+ you'll have probably noticed that I've been drawing a few 'detail' tiles for the new 'Basic Dungeon' range that look something like this:

I currently have a dozen of these finished, and the plan is to compile these into a little booklet over the weekend, and release it (as a free/PWYW expansion booklet) soon after.

AGE OF SHADOW

In addition to the dungeon tiles mentioned above, I've also been working on a new map-pack for the Age of Shadow (i.e. something similar to the East Eyrie booklet) - but this time I'm focussing on the layout of an Elven watchtower - which should have around 7 stories and a couple of (small) dungeon levels.

(a WIP pic of the ground level)

No doubt the map-pack will also come with a few paragraphs of Age of Shadow specific text - though for the most part, it'll be another fairly system neutral product.

DUNGEON MONTHLY

I'm still not 100% sure if I'm going to continue the 'Dungeon-Monthly' project throughout 2014 (i.e. where I draw a small, geomorph-like, dungeon segment each month) ...so let me know if this is something that you'd like to see me continue.

Last years project yielded 12 maps (as you'd expect) - which could be pieced together to look something like this:

So, if I were to continue with the project, January's map would pick up with the stairway down to the next level.

PAINTING & MODELLING

And finally, while it's not really 'CSP' related, I think it's worth mentioning that I'm also hoping to get a lot more painting done this year (and possibly get some gaming done on the wargaming front) ...beginning with these guys (for Bolt Action)...

...though I have a ton of other unpainted stuff lying around (so much that it really is quite shameful), so I'm going to make a conscious effort to paint more miniatures, and hopefully do more with them!

* * *

And that's about it for the immediate future. There are, of course, several other ideas floating around (such as more zombie tiles, a possible Age of Shadow themed dungeon crawler and/or skirmish game, more wilderness maps, an adventure locale or two, and so on), but that really would be getting ahead of myself :)
