More Geomorph's for January

As most of you will probably know by now, the aim of this year's Patreon campaign is to build up a library of colour geomophs and rooms (that are free for everyone to use) ...and the more support I can muster, the more time I can spend on the project (and yes, each $1 really does help).

Furthermore, there are several different pledge rewards on offer - that allow folks to suggest themes and layouts of new tiles (should they need a particular configuration or 'special' room for an upcoming adventure), that I'll then attempt to draw.

So without further ado here's a geomoph based on the suggestion of Craig Clark (who asked for a map with a mechanical/clockwork theme):

And because I've recently hit my next milestone, I'll now be producing 4 batches of 'basic geomophs' each month ...so here's the final batch for January:

And finally, Rich Neves asked if there would be any possibility of creating a few sci-fi maps in the future - and while I have  no immediate plans to do so (as that would be another project in and of itself), it did give me the idea of drawing a 'transporter room' of sorts (albeit a fantasy one in this case):

So, that's it for January. All that's left to say is a big thank you to everyone supporting the project ...and here's hoping that it won't be too long before we hit the next milestone (which will mean that I'll start work on making placeable objects to furnish the dungeon).

Note that all of these maps are Copyright Kristian Richards 2017, and that they are being collected in THIS ALBUM and over on GOOGLE DRIVE.

January's Geomorph Submissions

My current plan (for the Patreon campaign) is to dedicate the second half of each month to creating maps based on the suggestions supplied by those kind folks who've pledged at the 'dungeon builder' level or higher.

So, for the first of these, I have drawn the following map based on the 'ruined/flooded dungeon' idea submitted by Doug Z:

...and I have to say that I'm happy with the way it turned out :)

(Note that, over on the corresponding Patreon post, I also mentioned a few basic environmental hazard/encounter ideas that sprung to mind when drawing the map ...so let me know if you'd like to see more of that kind of thing in the future).

And for the next suggestion, Peter Webster asked if I could add a simple 'corner passage' to the set (rather than design a custom tile of his own) - thus making the set (as it stands at the moment) more usable for everyone.

So I've gone ahead and drawn 4 of them :)

And finally...

I've also been playing around with a simple tile overlay that can be used to represent secret passage entrances...

...so I've included a bunch of these in the 'extras folder' over on GOOGLE DRIVE - along with an EXAMPLE LAYOUT that shows all of the tiles that I've drawn thus far.

* * *

And that's it for this update. As always, my thanks go out to everyone for supporting the Patreon campaign - but even if you're not able/inclined to support the project financially, your thoughts, comments, and shares, are always welcome ...and help to keep me motivated.

Thanks again!

A Year (of miniature painting) in Review

As regular followers of the blog will be aware, last year I set myself the task of painting at least one miniature every week that I could use in my Age of Shadow games.

- The current group of adventurers -

Well, I'm pleased to say that I managed to exceed that goal - as I not only painted more than 60 miniatures, but I also ended up making quite a few bits of scatter terrain (though I've not included all of those in the picture).

- all of 2016's miniatures -

However, I'm not sure if I've actually put much of a dent in my 'box(es) of shame' (i.e my stockpile of unpainted miniatures) - as I've probably purchased just as many new miniatures over the course of the year, as I managed to get painted :S

Oh well, as least I tried ;)

January's Geomorphs (part 3)

This year's geomorph project has reached the next milestone ...which means that, each month, I'll be creating a minimum of:
  • 3 batches of basic geomorphs (each consisting of 4 small maps).
  • 1 small 'custom' geomorph (based on the suggestion of a $6.25 patron).
  • 1 large 'custom' geomorph (based on the suggestion of a $25 patron).
So, I've sat down and drawn another batch of geomorphs this weekend (to fulfil my '3 batch minimum' promise) ...and here they are:

Also note that all of these geomorphs are freely available (whether or not you are able to support the Patreon campaign), and are collected in THIS ALBUM, as well as being available over on GOOGLE DRIVE.

And if you're interested in seeing how these maps look when you piece a few of them together, here's another little example...

....though more complex and varied layouts will be possible in the coming months - i.e. when I manage to add more tiles to the library!

New dungeon geomorphs!

OUT WITH THE OLD...

As regular followers of the blog are probably aware, for the past few years I've been drawing a bunch of greyscale geomorphs, and sharing them here on the blog and over on the various social media sites. These maps include:

-a dungeon made up of five of these maps-

However, after five long years (and probably close to 200 maps later), I'm going to call this range of geomorphs done ...as I'm pretty sure that there is enough content to keep even the most hardcore of dungeon crawler's out there happy for quite some time :)

...AND IN WITH THE NEW!

That being said, all good things need not necessarily come to an end ...and (I'm hoping that) you'll be pleased to hear that I have begun work on a whole new set of colour maps...

...which will feature 12x12 geomorphs (or multiples thereof) that will contain a wide variety of empty rooms and passages (like those pictured above), along with fully furnished maps that can be used for specific areas/encounters (like that pictured below).

And just like the previous 'greyscale' maps, you can help me to create more of them by supporting the accompanying PATREON CAMPAIGN (and yeah, every single $1 pledge really helps).

That being said, all of these maps will continue to be freely available to everyone* (regardless of whether or not you are able/inclined to support the Patreon campaign), and will be collected in THIS ALBUM over on Google plus (though I've only got a handful finished at the moment, as the project has only just begun).

However, the more support I get, the more time I'll be able to dedicate to this new project ...which will then result in more maps for everyone!

-an example of how the tiles can be pieced together-

So, if this sounds like something you'd be interested in seeing more of, then please checkout my PATREON PAGE ...and even if you choose to not support the project as a patron, words of encouragement and suggestions/criticisms are always welcome!

*Note that, at the moment these maps are for personal use only - but if the Patreon campaign really takes off, I'll consider making them available for commercial projects too.
